Three Epping Forest schools are signed up for the Football Association's #LetGirlsPlay Biggest Ever Football Session.
Girls at St John's Church of England Primary School, Buckhurst Hill; Debden Park High School, Loughton, and Buckhurst Hill Community Primary School will be among the youngsters taking part in the national event which aims to see as many girls playing football in schools across the country on the same day - Wednesday, March 8.
This could be at lunchtime, in a lesson or after school.
The three Epping Forest schools have been congratulated on their participation by Epping Forest MP Dame Eleanor Laing.
She said: "I'm delighted that three schools in the Epping Forest constituency have already signed up for this nationwide event.
"Six months ago we saw the England Lionesses become European Champions for the first time in history when they lifted the UEFA Women’s Euro trophy.
"Their historic victory presents us with a unique and welcome opportunity to inspire girls across the country to get active and take up football.
"I hope that the girls taking part in Epping Forest will want to continue playing - and who knows could be England Lionesses of the future!"
Currently, only 67 per cent of schools in England offer football equally to girls and boys. This number drops to 41 per cent in secondary schools.
The FA has an ambition for 90 per cent of schools to offer equal access by 2024, and has a number of programmes and initiatives to try and make this a reality.
