A team from Davenant Foundation School in Loughton, which won this year's Epping Forest Schools Parliamentary Debating Competition held by Epping Forest MP Dame Eleanor Laing, has been presented with its trophies.
This year's competition - the first since the Covid pandemic - was held at Chigwell School with the teams debating either for or against the Motion that “This House believes that the internet brings more harm than good”.
The Davenant Foundation School team of Year 12 students Martin Prinsloo, 16, and Osaru Ayanru, 16, were one of the schools chosen to speak against the Motion.
Dame Eleanor, who visited the Chester Road school on Friday to present the students with their engraved cups, said: "It was a pleasure to visit the school and to congratulate Martin and Osaru on their success.
"I was delighted to be able to organise the competition once again. It was an evening filled with high quality parliamentary-style debating by potential future parliamentarians."
Runners-up were the Chigwell School team of Year 12 students Manrah Atwal, 17, and Arya Misra, 16, who were speaking for the Motion.
